Over-the-counter analgesics are efficient in relieving pain in mild to severe situations. However, more aggressive therapies may be required. Stronger therapies are usually administered under the supervision of a doctor. Ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medicines may be used to relieve pain, but they are not anti-inflammatory. Furthermore, they may have serious negative effects in people who have kidney or stomach ulcers, as well as if used inappropriately.

Furthermore, the Veteran reported back discomfort in 1985 and was treated for mechanical low back pain with ice and exercise.

The approach may help with upper back discomfort, neck pain, and shoulder pain.
